The term Mixed Martial Arts or “Mixed Martial Arts” was coined in 1995 by Rick Blum, President of Battlecade. But MMA gained stable popularity only with the development of such worldwide organizations as the Absolute Fighting Championship and the Pride Fighting Championship. Prior to this, such competitions had a minimum of rules. And with the sport being criticized as a “carnage”, additional restrictions have been put in place to improve the safety of athletes and attract new spectators. Thanks to these efforts, the popularity of MMA has skyrocketed and modern MMA is one of the fastest growing sports as evidenced by pay-per-view sales, media coverage, MMA growth!
